Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s improvised night-time road movie – which won the prestigious Tiger Award at the Rotterdam International Film Festival – is driven by a punk sensibility and a great sense of energy. It opens in the middle of a festival, Durga (Rajshree Deshpandey) and Kabeer (Vishnu Vedh) are fleeing to a railway station in rural Kerala to escape the anger of their parents and hitch a ride with four young guys in a small van. The scattershot film blends evocative local rituals, shot documentary style, with the road-bound plight of the couple.
