P&I - Director Bio

A long-time film buff, Stephan Streker first became a journalist with the aim of meeting the people he admired most in the world – filmmakers. In this capacity, he published lengthy interviews for the Belgian press. A Wedding (Noces) is his third feature-length film following Michael Blanco (2004) and The World Belongs to Us (2013).

Body

A Pakistani teenager in Belgium faces deep rooted traditions with heartbreakingly poignant results in this intimate family drama about parental love versus religious duty. Based on a true story, the film follows 18-year-old Zahira (Lina El Arabi), whose relaxed, western lifestyle is suddenly threatened when her parents announce her arranged marriage. With its strong international cast and assured direction from Stephan Streker this is a moving and provocative study of a young woman’s fight to make her own choices.
