Balance, Not Symmetry
Balance, Not Symmetry is a beautiful cinematic tribute to art, music and Scotland (and Glasgow in particular). A moving, funny and inspirational new film from the talented and prolific filmmaker Jamie Adams, it was made in close conjunction with the great Scottish band Biffy Clyro, who worked on both the storyline and the score.
Laura Harrier (Spider-Man: Homecoming) stars as a Scottish-American art student who is studying at Glasgow School of Art, and whose privileged existence is thrown into a spin when her father unexpectedly dies. Torn between supporting her mother (Kate Dickie) and dealing with her own sense of loss, she finds herself re-examining her life and friends. She finds inspiration from provocative fellow student Hannah (Bria Vinaite, The Florida Project).
Featuring rising talents such as Freya Mavor, Martin Bell and Lily Newmark, and with Tamsin Egerton and Shauna Macdonald as art teachers/experts, the film showcases a series of wonderful Scottish locations. The creative influence of Biffy Clyro to the film gives it an additional edge – Adams worked on the script with lead singer Simon Neil, who also wrote music for the film. [15]
Balance, Not Symmetry is nominated for the 2019 Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature Film.
