The Deposit (Tryggð)
Part of the European Perspectives Strand
Icelandic journalist Gísella (Elma Lísa Gunnarsdóttir) wants to write hard-hitting stories and, after her latest article is heavily edited, she quits her job. When she meets immigrants Abeba (Enid Mbabazi), her daughter Luna (Claire Harpa Kristinsdóttir), and Maria (Raffaella Sigurdardottir), she decides to help them (and gather material for a story) by offering them rooms in her large Reykjavik house. All goes well between the three women initially, but a power struggle soon takes over and warmth and hospitality turn into strict rules and threats of punishment. [12A]
