The Grizzlies
Part of the World Perspectives Strand
Based on a true story, this inspiring film focuses on first-time teacher Russ Sheppard’s (Ben Schnetzer) move to Kugluktuk, a small town in the frozen north with one of the highest suicide rates in North America. Russ’s class show little interest in learning, so he decides to set up a lacrosse programme at the school. He recruits a team of very reluctant teens, who form the Grizzlies lacrosse team. Producers include Stacey Aglok MacDonald, originally from Kugluktuk, and acclaimed filmmaker Alethea Arnaquq-Baril (Angry Inuk, 2016). [15]
The Grizzlies is nominated for the 2019 Award for Best International Feature Film.
