UK PREMIERE

Gwen

Part of the Best of British Strand

Body

Writer-director William McGregor’s debut feature brims with suspense and dread, featuring impressive performances and an enjoyable sense of the macabre. In the late 19th century, 17-year-old Gwen (Eleanor Worthington-Cox) lives on a small farm in an isolated Welsh community with her troubled mother, Elen (Maxine Peake), and younger sister, Mari (Jodie Innes). One night, Gwen sees a human shape lurking near the house. When sheep are killed and crops rot, men from the church and village turn against the family. Gwen is mesmerising, delving into pagan rituals and haunting evil. [15]

Gwen is nominated for the 2019 Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature Film.

The screening on Tue 25 Jun will be Audio Described (AD) and host Hard of Hearing (HoH) captions.
