Mataharis
Part of the Once Upon a Time in Spain Strand
Thanks to the success of Take My Eyes (2003), Bollaín quickly secured a major production company’s backing for her next project. Partly inspired by an advert recruiting women for a detective agency, Mataharis, written by Bollaín and screenwriter Tatiana Rodríguez, is a bittersweet realist drama driven by beautifully observed performances and a superb script. Full of emotional insight and subtle commentary on Spanish society, the film premiered at the 55th San Sebastián Film Festival. [15]
Mataharis is screening from a very rare 35mm print which unfortunately contains some scratches through a section of the film. We sincerely hope this will not affect your enjoyment of the film but sadly no alternative print was available.
