Body

One of the most influential British documentary filmmakers, Nick Broomfield’s easy charm and self-reflexive style has seen him at the forefront of the documentary world. His films cover a wide range of subjects, reflecting the way his filmmaking style has changed over the years. His early work in the 1970s was very much UK-based, but later films such as Soldier Girls (1981), Chicken Ranch (1983) and Driving Me Crazy (1988) saw international critical and festival recognition. In the 1990s, films such as Aileen Wuornos: The Selling of a Serial Killer (1992), Heidi Fleiss: Hollywood Madam (1995) and Kurt & Courtney (1998) consolidated his profile as one of the world’s leading documentarians. He usually works with a small crew, recording sound himself, and can often be seen in his finished films. [12A]
