Retrospective LIVE! — Black Wax
Part of the Special Events Strand
The first American film to be fully funded by Channel 4, director Robert Mugge’s superb 1982 documentary/concert film captures the legendary poet, musician and author Gil Scott-Heron in his soulful prime. Featuring a sensational performance with the Midnight Band (at the Wax Museum nightclub, Washington, DC) punctuated by interludes in which he takes his poetry to the city streets, Black Wax finds Scott-Heron delivering such politically charged classics as ‘Angel Dust’, ‘Winter in America’, ‘Whitey on the Moon’, ‘Johannesburg’, ‘B Movie’ and ‘Gun’.
