EIFF Play: Blade

Body

“There are worse things out tonight than vampires...”

Enter the vampire underworld with EIFF’s truly immersive cinema experience - a night of dark theatre and visual effects, hip hop and electro beats, secret vaults, interactive games and unexpected discoveries built in and around a 20th anniversary screening of Blade, all in the labyrinthine confines of the spectacular Leith Theatre. In partnership with Hidden Door and in collaboration with New Media Scotland, with amazing sets from DJ Nasty P and DJ EH-1, this will be a thrilling, interactive journey into the trailblazing film that paved the way for the Marvel Universe as it exists today.

“Tonight, the age of man comes to an end.” Deacon Frost

You are invited to travel back to 1998 when Vampires were an ever-present threat to society. 1990s style is encouraged - prepare yourself to be a Vampire or a Vampire Hunter on the night, depending on where your allegiance lies. Vials of blood or serum will be available to keep your thirst at bay.

To be in with a chance to take home a replica of Blade’s sword, you can take part in a real life mission to defeat Deacon Frost by participating in the venue-wide interactive game, which will take you into the darkest parts of Leith Theatre. Trust no one!

“There’s an old saying – keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer.” Blade

Throughout the night, there will be live action from Scare Scotland, 1990s video games from We Throw Switches, and hypnotic special effects during the film which, as the credits roll, will give way to a spectacular vampiric club night, mirroring the unforgettable opening scene, as DJ Nasty P and DJ EH-1 take over the decks, transforming the film’s seminal soundtrack into a unique, one-off set that is guaranteed to fill the dancefloor.

Your ticket also grants you access to the rest of Hidden Door's Sunday evening programme, including a series of theatre, dance and performace art events at the iconic State CInema on Great Junction Street from 6pm.

Supported by Sir Ewan and Lady Brown.
