Jess Loveland

Jess oversees the national strategy for the BFI NETWORK working closely with the UK-wide team of Talent Execs and colleagues in the BFI Film Fund. Jess has worked within NETWORK for five years, previously she was a regional Talent Exec with Film Hub North developing the work and careers of new and emerging filmmakers, and supporting them through the production of short films and the development of early stage feature projects. Jess is constantly inspired by the scale and ambition of the NETWORK project, the passion of her colleagues engaging with filmmakers across the country and the opportunity to support and promote the next generation of filmmakers wherever they are based in the UK.

Caragh Davison

Caragh works across BFI NETWORK’s UK-wide activity with a focus on designing our flagship talent development programmes such as NETWORK@LFF and NETWORK Weekender, as well as managing the NETWORK website and supporting the delivery of our partner work with BAFTA, British Council and BIFA among others. Her mission is to burst the industry bubble and throw the doors open to new filmmakers from all walks of life.

Julia Brown

Julia Brown is the Diversity Standards Manager at the BFI and is responsible for assessing projects against the Standards for the BFI’s Lottery Funds, the Young Audience Content Fund, and for BAFTA and BIFA eligibility. The BFI’s Diversity Standards are a framework that seek to address under-representation on-screen; in creative leadership, crew and project staff; in training, opportunities and career progression; and in audience outreach and development. Helen Trew, Creative Scotland’s Equalities & Diversity Officer will also be attending.

Keith Potter

Keith joined SFTN in May as the Talent Development Executive. Prior to this he worked as an Executive Producer at Catalyst Global Media in London, where he was across film and television projects for theirproduction division and was also hired to creatively run their feature film investment slate. Previously he wasa Project Manager at Screen Ireland, based in Dublin, where he was across features such as Room, Love & Friendship and The Killing of a Sacred Deer.

Before moving to Ireland, Keith worked for Ffilm Cymru Wales in Cardiff, where he was Head of Production and Development. In this role he represented the fund on projects such as Submarine and Kelly + Victor. Keith started his film career in development, acting as Head of Development for Dan Films and working with talent such as Tom Rob Smith and Christopher Smith.

In addition to Keith’s work at SFTN, he is also developing projects with Scottish Producer Stewart Mackinnon and Directors Emer Reynolds, Adrian Shergold and Catherine Linstrum.

Film festivals are seen as an indispensable platform for filmmakers and industry professionals to forge new connections and showcase and discover new work.

Whether you have a film in the programme or not, getting the most out of your festival experience is about so much more than just turning up and pitching your project to anyone you meet. This is an opportunity to get advice on how to make the most of being at a festival and hear the ‘dos and dont’s’ of approaching people!

Join festival veterans Mark Adams, Artistic Director of EIFF; Caroline Cooper Charles, Head of Strategic Programmes, Screen Yorkshire; Christine Falco, Owner-Producer of Les Films Camera Oscura (Ziva Postec. The Editor Behind the Film Shoah) and Laurence Boyce of Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, as they discuss how you can develop an efficient festival strategy with your networking etiquette still intact.

Learn about the art and craft of selling stories! With tips and tasks designed to build your confidence and practice intuitive tailoring of your presentation to suit a particular audience, this session will help you perfect your pitch as well as the way you deliver it.

London Film Academy is an internationally recognised innovative film school offering education in film which harnesses filmmakers’ talent and lets them find their voice in a collaborative and nurturing environment. They produce world-class filmmakers who thrive in an environment that emulates real world realities. Their intensive courses range from 2-year BA(Hons) Filmmaking, 1-year Filmmaking & Screenwriting Diplomas and short courses (form 1 day to 6 weeks) across fiction and documentary. They are delivered by practicing industry professionals and equip students with the multi- disciplinary skills, invaluable advice and crucial contacts to support them throughout their career.

David Pope is a screenwriter and script consultant working internationally. He has designed and delivered pitching and development workshops for the Cannes Cinefondation, British Council, Irish Film Board and New Horizons Studio amongst others. He is Director of advance films, Annual Consultant/Moderator for The Rotterdam Lab at CineMart and Programme Director at Stowe Story Labs. David is a Directing and Screenwriting Tutor at London Film Academy.

Sign up for this roundtable event and partake in up to three 20 minute sessions, looking at the trajectory of making a film. Each table will focus on the different stages of filmmaking - from financing and development, through to production and festival and distribution strategy.

The roundtables will be hosted by BFI NETWORK executives, who will explore strategies to efficiently and effectively exploit short film.
