DISTRIBUTION REWIRED and Film Hub Scotland
Present: Broken Windows?

15:30 – 16:45
TRAVERSE THEATRE 2
EIFF Press & Industry Centre

Access: EIFF Passholders

The decade-long debate on whether to keep or ditch release windows has recently come back to the fore with two major arthouse cinema chains adopting radically different approaches to distribution; one is launching films on video On Demand the same day as their releases, the other reinforcing a strict sixteen-week policy between any cinema screening and home release.

This panel takes a close look at the pros and cons of keeping release windows. Would more flexibility significantly benefit independent films or is it a myth to be busted?

Panellists for this session include Damian Spandley of Curzon, Rod White of Filmhouse and Martin Myers of Miracle Communications.

Deliverables Demystified
17:15 –18:30
TRAVERSE THEATRE 2
EIFF Press & Industry Centre

Access: EIFF Passholders

The public life of a film truly begins when you are ready to send it out for its first screening. But what happens when you reach this crucial stage without a budget or plan for what’s next? Filmmakers often fall into the trap of thinking about distribution and exhibition when it’s too late, at which point producing high quality materials and a film that runs without fault can be challenging. With a few disaster stories and real pearls of wisdom, this panel will teach you your DCPs from your EPKs, and discuss ways to ensure that you’re prepared with all the deliverables that festivals, sales agents and online platforms might ask for.

Panellists for this session will include Producer Leslie Hills, Skyline Productions; Producer Rebecca O'Brien, Sixteen Films; Rob Deacon, Film Campaign Publicist; Ian Davies of Initialize Films and a representative from Filmhouse’s Digital Cinema Services team.
