Welcome to Edinburgh International Film Festival's brand new event cinema experience - EIFF: Play.
Kicking off from 15 June, EIFF: Play celebrates films from celebrated writer-director Edgar Wright. Lose yourself in the weird and wonderful world of gamer-fantasy Scott Pilgrim vs the World (2010), zombie-comedy Shaun of the Dead (2004) and crime-action spoof Hot Fuzz (2007).
Supported by Sir Ewan and Lady Brown, and in partnership with The List, the screenings of the cult comedy classics will take place at three unique venues across the city including The Venue at Potterrow at Teviot Row House, The Biscuit Factory and Church Hill Theatre.
Mark Adams, EIFF Artistic Director said: “We’re thrilled to launch EIFF: Play in our 70th Anniversary Year. For the first time, we’re taking the concept of Edgar Wright’s incredible catalogue of films and bringing them to life across Edinburgh, with a number of immersive cinema experiences and parties.”
On Thursday 15 June, audiences will get lost in the world of Scott Pilgrim: 22-year-old gamer, garlic bread lover and bass guitar player in band Sex Bob-omb. Based on the iconic graphic novel by Brian Lee O’Malley, The Venue at Potterow’s screening of Scott Pilgrim vs the World will be followed by the ultimate comic book party at Teviot Row House. Take part in our Tiny Zine Swap Shop, try new and retro games with We Throw Switches, and watch live illustration by Too Much Fun Club, complete with DJs and video game themed bars.
Where’s the best place to survive a zombie attack? At EIFF’s Survivors Party, of course. Audiences can expect laughs and screams aplenty when Shaun of the Dead arrives at The Biscuit Factory on Thursday 22 June. Party into the undead hours post-screening with our ghoulish DJs spinning tracks. You’ll be given your very own zombie pack, visit Edinburgh International Science Festival’s gory Blood Bar, and get the chance to try your hand at special effects make-up.
Finally, audiences will report to the Church Hill Theatre on Thursday 29 June for a crime-fighting masterclass with the screening of Hot Fuzz. Cinema-goers can collect their free bobby’s helmet and investigate the unusual happenings at EIFF’s summer fête... Try your hand at tombola, get sketchy with Primitive Painters, sample sugary treats and hear the latest slam poetry from Loud Poets in partnership with the Scottish Poetry Library.
