Announcing our 2019 Industry events programme which offers a number of activities to support networking, talent development and future collaborations and will cover all sections of the filmmaking process.

EIFF will again partner with a number of organisations to deliver a wide programme of events including Creative Europe, BFI NETWORK, BECTU Vision, Film Hub Scotland, Film City Futures, London Film Academy, Wellcome and PRS for Music.

EIFF’s Industry Programme is supported by Screen Scotland and the Scottish Government’s Festivals Expo Fund.  EIFF’s Talent Development programmes are funded through the PLACE Programme, a partnership between the Scottish Government (through Creative Scotland), the City of Edinburgh Council and the Edinburgh Festivals.

Events this year include: CASTING LIGHT ON CASTING DIRECTORS, where members of the Casting Society of America’s European chapter will discuss the casting process and the value the role can bring to a production; co-hosted with the Scottish Documentary Institute MINDING NON-FICTION will look at ethical documentary filmmaking and best practices for the mental health and wellbeing of both filmmaker and subject, and WOMEN IN ANIMATION; THE STATE OF THE ART will feature women working in the animation sector and the challenges for both experience and emerging talent in the sector.

There will also be a number of one-to-one meeting opportunities available along with 25/7, the annual speed meeting event in partnership with Scottish Film Talent Network, where 25 producers and 25 writers and writer/directors have ten seven-minute meetings to expand their networks and meet their peers.

EIFF FOCUS ON SPAIN

As part of EIFF’s FOCUS ON SPAIN the EIFF will welcome eight Spanish producers to the Festival to take part in a number of scheduled meetings with producers from across the UK to encourage new partnerships and on-going relationships supported by the Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales.

DISTRIBUTION REWIRED

The fifth edition of DISTRIBUTION REWIRED will take explore how the distribution landscape has changed and developed over the last five years. Additional events under this focus will include round-tables and a case study of Rehana Rose’s Dead Good which took part in the Distribution Rewired marketplace in 2018.

Ten pre-selected film projects will again be selected to take part in the 2019 Distribution Rewired marketplace where they will take part in meetings with key representatives from the industry to look at more creative approaches to distribution.

EIFF WORKS IN PROGRESS will showcase ten of the most exciting new films from across the UK to an exclusively invited audience of sales agents, distributors, financiers and festival programmers, helping selected projects reach their ambitions of completion, distribution and exhibition. Both narrative fiction and documentary projects are selected via an open call and the event offers £2500 for the most promising project.

EIFF TALENT LAB

The ninth EIFF TALENT LAB is delighted to confirm its thirty talent filmmakers selected for this year’s four-day programme of workshops, panels, masterclasses and specially tailored one-to-one sessions. To support the development of their knowledge, skills and networks, participants will meet with industry guests including representatives from Cornerstone Films, Film4, Protagonist Pictures, Hanway Films, Casarotto Ramsay, Wellington Films, BBC Films, Bankside Films, Peccadillo Pictures and Pathé.

EIFF Industry events will take place in dedicated venue, the EIFF Press & Industry Centre, housed once again in the Traverse Theatre. This venue will offer a space for both business and social activities over the 10 days of the Industry programme which include discussions, workshops and networking opportunities for all Festival passholders.
