Robert Carlyle hails from Maryhill, Glasgow and graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in 1991.
Robert played the eponymous hero in the BBC’s hit series Hamish Macbeth and received a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor. Other television roles include: Looking After Jo Jo, Gunpowder, Treason and Plot, Class of 76, and The Last Enemy. Robert was also Emmy award nominated for Human Trafficking in 2006 and won a Scottish BAFTA award for Cracker. His most recent television work includes Once Upon a Time for ABC and a starring role in the smash hit series Stargate Universe.
On the big screen, Robert has starred in classics such as Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting and Trainspotting 2; The Full Monty; James Bond: The World Is Not Enough; The 51st State; Eragon; 28 Weeks Later; Stone of Destiny and Summer.
Robert most recently directed his first feature film, The Legend of Barney Thompson, both starring in and receiving a BAFTA Scotland nomination for Best Director.
