As environmental concerns spread and social inequalities rise, the need for careful attention to the relationship between humans, nature and technology becomes evermore urgent. How can film, with its ability to capture the subtleties of time passing, as well as the contradictions of history, address the issues at stake in our pursuit of progress? The deeply contemplative films in this programme present alternatives to traditional representations of landscape, space and place, shifting from figuration to abstraction and privileging the marginal and forgotten.
